We reached out to Victor Daviet, 686 Team Rider and backcountry enthusiast to create a series of videos on how he safely prepares for his adventures outside the resort ropes. Victor has partnered with ANENA (National Association for the Study of Snow and Avalanches) to organize a series of backcountry awareness events called Safety Shred Days, so we knew he’d be the perfect candidate to help us spread awareness while keeping things fun along the way.
EPISODE 1: Backcountry Essentials
Victor touches on the essential gear required for a safe backcountry mission, no matter how close or far you are from a resort, along with some of his personal must-haves. Gear alone does not mean you are ready to get out there. You must also get educated, know the risks, and know your partner(s) are too. Check out our Backcountry Safety 101 for more information and Subscribe to be notified of the next episode.
EPISODE 2: Planning Before You Go
Victor Stresses the importance of having a proper plan in place before heading out into the backcountry. He shares tips on routes, team safety, and having a detailed itinerary.
Get started for the right tips on avalanche conditions in your region as well as finding safety courses in your area. Properly planning your route is very important. Caltopo and onX Backcountry are great resources and will help you be more prepared to safely navigate the terrain.
EPISODE 3: On-Snow Training

His biggest tip - take an avalanche training course, like Safety Shred Days, or a course offered in your local mountains to get first-hand knowledge & brush up on your backcountry skills.
